3. Program Objectives
The BA program at SOH is designed with specific objectives in mind to ensure students receive a comprehensive education. These objectives include:
- Introducing students to key themes and topics across various disciplines in humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
- Equipping students with the necessary information and skills to understand and analyze the world around them.
- Enabling students to enhance their abilities and skills through exposure to appropriate courses.
- Improving students' reading and writing skills through assignments and exercises at the undergraduate level.
- Exposing students to the importance of interdisciplinary learning.
4. Eligibility
To be eligible for the BA program at SOH, students must have completed their 10+2 education or its equivalent.
5. Medium of Instruction
Courses in the BA program are offered in both English and Hindi, providing flexibility for students to choose their preferred language of instruction.
6. Selection of Disciplines
The disciplines offered in the BA program are divided into five groups. Students are required to choose three disciplines from these groups. However, they can only select one discipline from each group. For example, if a student chooses English from Group-1, they cannot select another discipline from the same group. They can choose their second and third disciplines from other groups in a similar manner.
This structured approach ensures that students receive a well-rounded education while also allowing them the flexibility to pursue their academic interests.

Semester-wise Distribution of Courses
Understanding Credit Load Distribution
Navigating the credit load distribution can help students plan their academic journey effectively. Here's a breakdown to simplify the process:
1. Semester-wise Credit Load Breakdown
Each semester carries a different credit load, impacting students' workload throughout their program.
2. First Semester: 18 Credits
In the initial semester, students typically handle a credit load of 18 credits.
3. Second Semester: 22 Credits
Moving into the second semester, the credit load slightly increases to 22 credits.
4. Subsequent Semesters: 20 Credits
From the third to the sixth semester, students maintain a consistent credit load of 20 credits per semester.
5. Total Credits per Year: 40 Credits
Annually, students accumulate a total of 40 credits, ensuring steady progress towards graduation.
6. Semester-wise Course Distribution
Understanding the distribution of courses across semesters aids in planning students' academic paths effectively.
7. Selection of Disciplines
In the first semester, students choose two disciplines, followed by a third discipline in the second semester. This structured approach ensures students receive a well-rounded education.
8. Group-based Discipline Selection
Courses are organized into five groups, with students selecting one discipline from each group. This system offers diversity while allowing students to focus on their preferred areas of study.
9. Completion of Courses
By adhering to this course structure, students complete four courses in each of the three disciplines over three years (six semesters). This comprehensive curriculum ensures students gain in-depth knowledge and skills in their chosen fields.
