Emic and Etic Approach (Within 100 words)
The emic approach involves understanding cultural phenomena from the insider's perspective, considering internal meanings and values. Researchers use native categories and interpretations to capture the subjective experience.
In contrast, the etic approach adopts an external viewpoint, analyzing cultural phenomena objectively with concepts and categories external to the studied culture. This approach emphasizes cross-cultural comparisons and generalizable findings. Anthropologists often employ both emic and etic perspectives to achieve a holistic understanding of a culture, balancing the insider's viewpoint with the need for cross-cultural analysis.
