Exceptions to Confidentiality:
Confidentiality in counseling is a fundamental principle, but exceptions exist when there's a risk of harm to the client or others. Exceptions include imminent danger of self-harm or harm to others, child or elder abuse, court-ordered disclosures, and when a client poses a serious threat to national security. In these situations, therapists are ethically and legally obliged to breach confidentiality to ensure the safety and well-being of the individuals involved.
