Sanskritization is a sociocultural process in India where lower-caste groups adopt customs, rituals, and practices of higher castes to elevate their social status. The term, coined by M.N. Srinivas, reflects the upward mobility aspirations within the caste system. It involves adopting Brahminical traditions, rituals, and lifestyle to gain social acceptance and prestige. Sanskritization represents a complex cultural phenomenon where social groups emulate higher castes, aiming to transcend their own social positions within the caste hierarchy.
