The Government of India has launched several initiatives aimed at leveraging technology to transform healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes through smart health solutions. Some key initiatives include:
National Digital Health Mission (NDHM): Launched in 2020, NDHM aims to create a comprehensive digital health ecosystem in India. It includes the creation of unique health IDs for individuals, digital health records, telemedicine services, and health data exchange platforms. NDHM facilitates seamless access to healthcare services and promotes interoperability among healthcare providers.
Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM): ABDM, part of the Ayushman Bharat program, focuses on digitizing health records and enabling interoperability among healthcare providers. It aims to improve access to healthcare services and enable portability of health records for beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
eSanjeevani: eSanjeevani is a national telemedicine service launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It provides remote consultation services to patients through video conferencing, enabling access to healthcare professionals without the need for physical visits.
Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY): PMJAY, also known as Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, is the world's largest government-funded healthcare insurance scheme. It aims to provide financial protection to over 500 million vulnerable individuals by covering medical expenses for hospitalization and selected secondary and tertiary care procedures.
National Health Portal (NHP): The National Health Portal serves as a single point of access for authentic health information, resources, and services. It provides information on various health programs, policies, and initiatives of the Government of India.
Swasth Bharat Prerak Program: This program aims to build capacities of health and wellness centers (HWCs) under Ayushman Bharat by deploying young professionals (Swasth Bharat Preraks) to support and implement various health initiatives at the grassroots level.
These initiatives collectively focus on leveraging digital technologies, telemedicine, and data-driven solutions to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, promote preventive care, enhance access to healthcare services, and ensure quality and affordable healthcare for all citizens of India.
