Inner Line Permit (ILP):
The Inner Line Permit (ILP) is a travel document required by non-residents to enter certain restricted areas within India. It is a system designed to protect the interests of indigenous communities, preserve cultural identity, and regulate the entry of outsiders into specific regions.
Under the ILP system, non-residents, including Indian citizens from other states, need to obtain a permit to enter and stay in the designated areas. The permit is typically issued by the concerned state government or authorities and specifies the duration of stay and the areas permitted for visitation.
The ILP is primarily enforced in states located in the northeastern part of India, such as Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram, as well as some parts of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The system aims to balance the need for tourism and economic activities with the protection of local cultures and traditions, as well as the prevention of demographic changes in these sensitive regions.
