Mizo National Front (MNF) Politics:
The Mizo National Front (MNF) is a political party in the Indian state of Mizoram. Founded by Laldenga in 1959, the MNF initially sought the secession of Mizoram from India. However, after years of insurgency and armed conflict, the party entered mainstream politics, leading to the signing of the Mizoram Accord in 1986, which ended the insurgency and paved the way for peace and the establishment of the MNF as a legitimate political entity.
The MNF has played a significant role in Mizoram's political landscape, forming the government multiple times. Laldenga became the Chief Minister in 1987 after the first elections following the accord. The party has maintained its influence through subsequent electoral victories, contributing to the stable political environment in Mizoram. The MNF's political agenda has shifted from secession to regional autonomy, economic development, and the preservation of Mizo identity. Today, the MNF remains a key player in Mizoram's politics, emphasizing regional aspirations within the framework of the Indian Union.
