Jago Grahak Jago is a nationwide consumer awareness campaign launched by the Government of India to educate and empower consumers about their rights and responsibilities. The campaign, whose name translates to "Wake Up, Consumer, Wake Up" in English, aims to promote awareness, transparency, and accountability in consumer transactions and to encourage informed consumer choices.
The campaign was initiated by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in collaboration with various stakeholders, including consumer organizations, industry bodies, and media partners. Its primary objective is to empower consumers to make informed decisions, assert their rights, and seek redressal for grievances effectively.
Jago Grahak Jago employs various communication channels and outreach activities to reach a wide audience across the country. It utilizes television and radio commercials, print advertisements, social media campaigns, and outdoor hoardings to disseminate consumer education messages and promote awareness about consumer rights and protections.
The campaign focuses on educating consumers about their rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, such as the right to information, right to choice, right to safety, right to redressal, and right to consumer education. It also emphasizes the importance of consumer responsibilities, such as exercising caution while making purchases, demanding quality products and services, and reporting unfair trade practices.
Jago Grahak Jago encourages consumers to be vigilant, proactive, and empowered advocates for their rights by providing them with information, resources, and tools to navigate the marketplace effectively. Through its concerted efforts, the campaign seeks to foster a culture of consumer awareness, accountability, and empowerment, ultimately contributing to a more transparent and equitable consumer environment in India.
