The Latency stage is the fourth psychosexual stage in Freud's theory of psychosexual development, occurring roughly between the ages of 6 and puberty. During this stage, sexual impulses are dormant, and energy is invested in developing cognitive and social skills. Children focus on school, friendships, and hobbies, channeling their energy into non-sexual activities. The Latency stage is characterized by the suppression of sexual desires, allowing for the formation of social bonds and the acquisition of knowledge and skills, setting the foundation for healthy psychosocial development in later stages.
