ADHD typically manifests in childhood and may persist into adolescence and adulthood, affecting various aspects of an individual's life, including academic performance, social relationships, and daily functioning.

      1. Inattention:
      Individuals with ADHD often struggle with maintaining attention and focus on tasks or activities, leading to difficulties in sustaining attention to details, organizing tasks, following instructions, and completing assignments. They may become easily distracted by external stimuli, have difficulty listening or paying attention in conversations, and frequently lose or forget important items.

      2. Hyperactivity:
      Hyperactivity in ADHD is characterized by excessive and inappropriate levels of motor activity, such as fidgeting, squirming, or restlessness in situations where it is not appropriate. Children with ADHD may have difficulty remaining seated, engaging in quiet activities, or waiting their turn, often appearing as if they are "on the go" or driven by a motor.

      3. Impulsivity:
      Impulsivity refers to acting without forethought or consideration of consequences, leading to hasty decision-making, risk-taking behaviors, and difficulty inhibiting responses.       • Predominantly Inattentive Presentation: Characterized by significant difficulties with attention and organization, but fewer symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity.
      • Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation: Characterized by prominent symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity, but fewer symptoms of inattention.
      • Combined Presentation: Characterized by significant symptoms of both inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity.

      5. Impact on Functioning:
      ADHD can have significant implications for academic, social, and emotional functioning. Children with ADHD may struggle academically due to difficulties with attention, organization, and completing tasks. They may experience challenges in social relationships due to impulsive behavior, difficulty regulating emotions, and maintaining attention during interactions. Additionally, ADHD may contribute to low self-esteem, frustration, and emotional dysregulation.

      6. Treatment Approaches:
      Treatment for ADHD typically involves a multimodal approach that may include:

      • Medication: Stimulant medications, such as methylphenidate (e.g., Ritalin) or amphetamines (e.g., Adderall), are commonly prescribed to help improve attention, focus, and impulse control.
