      A watershed, also known as a catchment or drainage basin, refers to an area of land where all surface water (such as rainfall, snowmelt, or runoff) drains into a common outlet, such as a river, lake, or ocean. Watersheds are defined by the topography of the land, with higher elevations forming the boundaries that direct water flow towards a central point or body of water.

      The importance of watershed management lies in its critical role in sustaining water resources, supporting biodiversity, regulating ecosystems, and providing essential services to human populations. Here are the major characteristics and significance of watershed management:

      1. Water Resource Management:
      Watershed management plays a crucial role in conserving and managing water resources. By preserving natural vegetation, managing land use, and implementing soil conservation practices within a watershed, water retention and infiltration rates can be improved. This helps maintain groundwater levels, regulate stream flow, reduce erosion, and mitigate the impacts of floods and droughts.

      2. Ecosystem Services:
